Dr. Burnier is a Full Professor of Ophthalmology, Pathology, Medicine, Oncology and Surgery at McGill and the former Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at McGill (1993 to 2008) He was also the Thomas O. Hecht Family Chair in Ophthalmology (1996-2012). Dr. Burnier is currently the Director of Training & Development of the Research of the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute.
Dr. Burnier is the author and co-author of over 550 publications and has served as Guest Speaker and Visiting Professor at many national and international conferences. He is distinguished with several national and international awards. Dr. Burnier is the Director of the MUHC – McGill University Ocular Pathology & Translational Research Laboratory which is a unique facility in Canada and has become the largest research and training center in Ocular Pathology in North America. Over 200 fellows from 20 different countries have passed through the laboratory. These fellows are part of BIOPSY (Burnier International Ocular Pathology Society) which holds scientific meetings every two years and gives a great opportunity for this network to share interesting cases and research.
